Nothing in this world is as important as taking care of your health and that of your family members. Among other things, it means that you have to know the type of foods that will make you healthy. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of foods that are rich in nutrition mostly because they do not have a time or patience to research on such matters. Additionally, those that know more about nutrition than the average person do not usually know as much as they should.
The best way of learning about healthy foods is by focusing on the things that people love the most. Here are some facts on fast foods, apples and bananas that you may find interesting.
The popularity of fast foods in the world is unhealthy
Some of the most frequently-consumed foods in the developed world include burgers, pizza, French fries, fried chicken, and kebabs. In the US alone, consumers spend about $100 billion each year on such food items. Unfortunately, the consequences of consuming fast foods at such a high rate are devastating. For example, one slice of an ordinary pizza contains 285 calories. It means that you will take in about 2850 calories if you consume just one regular pizza. That is 850 and 350 calories above the recommended daily intake for a woman and a man respectively.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Apples are some of the most popular fruits in the world with global production peaking at 80.8 million tons in 2013. Surprisingly, China produces more than 49% of the world’s apples with the US coming in second with 4.1%. An average apple contains about 130 calories. It has an adequate amount of Vitamin C and antioxidants. Interestingly, apple seeds contain a small amount of a cyanide compound. Even though cyanide is poisonous to humans, the amount contained in these seeds is negligible. Moreover, a natural protective coating on the seeds locks it inside and as such, prevents it from entering your body.
Eating bananas is healthy for you
Bananas are also another popular fruit around the world with world production amounting to about 1438 million tons in 2013. Bananas are an excellent source of nutrition containing 75% water, 12% sugars, 0.3% fat, and 1.3% protein. An average banana has only 89 calories. It is a good source of Vitamin B, Vitamin C, dietary fiber, and manganese. Bananas are also high in potassium. Another interesting fact is that bananas are radioactive, but their level of radioactivity is so low that it has no impact on the human body at all.
